Young people hold a special place in the life of the Church family here at Rockhampton Baptist! We have a strong focus on creating places and spaces that keep our young people safe, engaged, and excited about understanding what Jesus has done for them, and growing the confidence that comes from understanding who we all are as children of God.

Kids Ministries +

Our Kids Ministries, which run concurrent to the school terms and operate during our services of a Sunday, begin with Creche, and move through to Sonshine Kids, and finally Kids 4 Christ. Each of these Kids Ministries is designed to be fun, bright, and vibrant, with an aim to share the Gospel message with our young people in a way that’s meaningful and influential for them in their respective age groups.

Creche

Creche, which is open to infants through to kids aged 2 years, runs as a supervised programme in our purpose-built Creche that shares a one-way window into the main Auditorium. The Creche ministry seeks to allow parents or care-givers the opportunity to enjoy a more focussed time to engage in worship and teaching during our Sunday services. Creche is also established to provide a safe environment for our very young people to have fun and develop friendships and connections with one another as they grow.

Sonshine Kids

Sonshine Kids is a ministry for kids aged 3 years through to the end of Year 1. Sonshine Kids is also a supervised programme that runs in its own room within the main Church building just behind the Auditorium, sharing a wall with the Creche. Sonshine Kids gives the opportunity to begin to deliberately unpack the Gospel message and seeks to provide our young ones with an understanding of Creation, the journey of God’s people through the Old Testament, and the importance of who Jesus is and why His sacrifice is a game-changer for each and every one of us. Sonshine Kids normally will involve a game or engaging activity to burn up some of that seemingly endless energy, a story from the Bible, some snacks, and a fun craft – all designed to grow disciples and build relationships.

Kids 4 Christ

Kids 4 Christ is a ministry for kids from Year 2 to Year 6. Kids 4 Christ is also a supervised programme that runs in its own room in the main Church building above the Auditorium, near the Youth and Young Adults room. Kids 4 Christ expands on the fundamentals of the Bible and explores how being a follower of Jesus shapes how we live, our decisions, and our behaviours. This kids ministry is centred on fun, energy, and excitement, allowing time and space for our young people to engage in the Bible in a way that resonates with them, and to be encouraged by continuing to build relationships with their peers.

Youth Ministries +

Our Youth Ministries, which run concurrent to the school terms, include Friday Night Youth, Sunday Youth, and Youth Growth Groups. Rockhampton Baptist’s Youth Ministries emphasise connecting with our young people where they are at in life, sharing the confident hope that comes from inviting Jesus into our lives, and providing a welcoming, vibrant, and exciting space to have fun together. These programs also enable our young people to engage with the Bible and unpack the truth and wisdom that it holds to do life well and enjoy the fullness of God’s plan for each and every one of them.

Friday Night Youth

Friday Night Youth – believe it or not – runs weekly of a Friday evening from 7pm to 9pm, and meets in the Auditorium of the main Church building. Friday Night Youth is open to highschoolers, with year 6 students welcomed along in term 4 of each year. A standard evening at Friday Night Youth, more commonly referred to as FNY, involves a short game to get the blood pumping, a quick welcome, a time of sharing and encouragement, a big game or activity, as well as some delicious snacks at the end of the night. FNY is a high-energy, fun, and safe place to connect with other youth from the community to understand more about who Jesus is, and what His story means for you. Throughout the term FNY also has a range of ‘off-site’ nights which have included activities such as Pool Party, Bowling Night, FunZone Lock-in, and a visit to the Putt-putt and Driving Range – it’s safe to say there is always something exciting happening at Friday Night Youth.

Sunday Youth

Sunday Youth – strangely enough – runs fortnightly during our Sunday services, and takes place in the Youth and Young Adults room above the Auditorium in the main Church building. Sunday Youth is a place where highschoolers can engage in deeper exploration of God’s Word, how it applies to their lives, and how Jesus’ teaching can be used to help guide decision-making as they grow. Sunday Youth is also an energetic and active space with plenty of fun and games involved each time the group meets. Sunday Youth allows young people who have grown up in and around the Church to own and better understand their faith, but also engages young people who are seeking to connect with Jesus and receive God’s greatest gift. It’s common place for those remaining in the Auditorium during a Sunday service to hear some of the excitement and activity that comes from up at Sunday Youth.

Youth Growth Groups

Youth Growth Groups provide time and space for young people to connect together and be mentored by a leader in a smaller group setting. Youth Growth Groups are established in discussion and collaboration with our young people, their interests, and their schedules to create opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of God’s Word, the context in which it was written, how it applies in our lives today, and build relationships and community. Youth Growth Groups are designed around their participants and, as they are in a smaller group setting, the activities involved often reflect the young people – it’s safe to say that fun, connection, and faith remain cornerstones of this program.
